Israeli scientist Prof. Dan Shechtman, the Laureate of Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2011, shared his learning experiences with more than 1,700 high school and college students at TAIPEI TECH on May 7th, 2012. Audiences were encouraged to “think outside the square, be curious, and stay in faith”. The President Emeritus of Academia Sinica, Prof. Yuan-Tseh, Lee also inspired the audiences with his learning discovery in science.

Prof. Shechtman indicated that many difficulties he encountered in the research processes can only be eventually overcome by staying in doubt and be open-minded towards the journey of learning. Significantly, having faith in his own findings and researches is essential. Prof. Shechtman encourages his students repeatedly, "in order to be outstanding, one must become an expert in a certain field, confidence comes from expertise, and one must believe in himself/herself". This attitude is also honoured by the committee of Nobel Prize in Chemistry, who praised the originality of Prof. Shechtman's research and the spirit of bravely challenging existing cognisance.

| Prof. Lee said that he also encountered many hardships and hitches during his science research profession, and he believes that the most spectacular thing in life is to have a job you admire. The passion of loving science keeps him staying on the academic research works. |

Two Laureates of Nobel Prize in Chemistry interacting with ease the audiences. Jhe-Syun, Huang, an assistance Prof. from National Tsing Hua University, asked how the internet would have its impact on the quality of scientific research. Prof. Shechtman said: ”Internet is a powerful tool with blessing. We should make good use of it and don’t waste too much time addicted to it”.
” You should explore and concentrate on one thing from various angles.” Shechtman answered to Yi-Zhong, Chen, a student from Taipei Tech on how personality may make a Nobel Winner different from an ordinary person. Prof. Lee further stated that “Don’t be afraid of being different from others, be creative, confidence and always probing questions are ways to accumulate knowledge in one specialised field, and are crucial to make a person unique”.
