Taipei Tech recently showcases the implementation result of the 2021 Teaching Practice Research Project online to exhibit creative and innovative teaching methods utilized by Taipei Tech teachers. Yang Shih-Hsuan, Dean of Academic Affairs, mentioned that among the seventeen projects submitted by Taipei Tech this year, six were evaluated as excellent projects by the Ministry of Education which shows how the teachers at Taipei Tech dedicated to developing innovative and progressive teaching.
Eric Lee, professor of the Industrial Design Department, breaks the limitation of insufficient space and equipment by incorporating Augmented Reality (AR) into his woodworking class to simulate the processing procedure of CNC machinery. Students can now practice the operation of CNC machine repeatedly on the specific AR App to reduce error rate and to effectively improve their operational skills.
Other teachers that maximize digital tool utility for teaching includes Wang Chen-Shu from the Department of Information and Finance Management and Tseng Po-Hsuan from the Department of Electronic Engineering. Wang bridges online and onsite learning through the most trending live streaming that improves student engagement. Tseng offers a course on software-defined networking that requires students to utilize OpenFlow protocol development software in embedded systems. Considering how students’ backgrounds can affect their software skills, Tseng introduces the spirit of openness and sharing into the classroom. He encourages students to conduct peer learning through GitHub, an online software development platform, where fellow classmates can observe and comment on others’ program code, and the teacher can also track the development process via the platform to quantify learning results.
Taipei Tech President, Wang Sea-Fue, indicated that the improvement of teaching quality can effectively stimulate the motivation and effectiveness of student learning. Therefore, he encourages teachers to systematically develop innovative teaching methods and actively participate in the MOE Teaching Practice Research Project. The university also provides individual consultation, research workshops, expert advisers and additional elastic salary to promote innovative and creative teaching.
