Taipei Tech AIGC Creations Featured at Milan New Media Art Exhibition

Digital Narratives from Memory to the Body

The Taiwanese new media art exhibition 2030: Collective Resonance — Human, AI, Rituals and Virtual Memory is being held at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, Italy, from September 16 to October 25, 2026. Bringing together a diverse group of Taiwanese new media artists, the exhibition features works by faculty members, students, and alumni of the Department of Interaction Design at National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech). Through digital video, virtual reality (VR), and immersive media, the works demonstrate Taipei Tech’s interdisciplinary creative practice and hands-on approach, spanning themes from memories of place and folk beliefs to public spaces and bodily experiences.

Professor Hsiao-Yue Tsao of the Department of Interaction Design presents A Sea of Polyphony, a work that uses digital video, projection, and interactive multimedia to create a digital narrative. Drawing on memories of place and women’s experiences, the work reinterprets Taiwanese writer Chung Wen-Yin’s Thinking of You to the Ocean: A Century-Old Unfinished Suspense, Arriving at the End of the Rain, incorporating key imagery from the book to shape the work’s narrative journey and explore new possibilities for experiencing Taiwanese literature.

Assistant Professor Che-Kuang Chuang of the Department of Interaction Design contributes two VR works, Toilet Consciousness and In the Name of Body. Toilet Consciousness examines the body, gender, privacy, and public space, while In the Name of Body further asks how the physical body continues to participate in public life amid the ongoing development of AI and digital technologies.

Works by students and alumni include the VR work Heart of Charcoal Fire, created with the participation of second-year Department of Interaction Design student Po-Kuei Chen and Taipei Tech alumni Ke-Chen Lan and Yu-Ling Hsieh. Drawing on elements such as fire, incense, prayer, and Taiwanese folk beliefs, the work uses VR and interactive storytelling to construct a virtual space that audiences can enter, transforming the visual, spatial, and bodily sensations of ritual into a digital experience.

Graduate Institute of Interaction Design alumna Tai-Fen Wen presents Polished by Time, which employs generative AI to orchestrate imagery, animation, and sound. See You in Three Days by Kee-Seng Kua uses 4K AI-generated moving images to portray personal and family experiences.

From memories of place and folk beliefs to public spaces and bodily perception, the works approach diverse subjects while collectively demonstrating how digital media can transform the ways audiences enter and experience artworks. The exhibition in Milan also brings Taipei Tech’s creative works and cross-university collaborations into diverse cultural and exhibition contexts.
