2017 City Lu Ban class graduation exhibition

Lu Ban is a legendary master craftsman also known as the father of Chinese carpentry. Taipei Tech has always been dedicated to preserve the technique of traditional carpentry. The 2017 City Lu Ban class launched by Wood School attracted a group of people who are interested in the art of carpentry and willing to spend hours on weekend to pursue their carpenter dream. Step by step, students followed master’s instruction and gradually create their own wood crafts from scratch. After 15 days of hardworking, their final projects will be displayed on the graduation exhibition during May 29-30 at the Art and Culture Center of Taipei Tech and is open to carpentry lovers as well as new friends.

One of the students in 2017 City Lu Ban class, Ching-Yuan Kao, has been taking class at Wood School for almost three years now and has created over 40 pieces of work. The reason behind Kao’s persistence is not only about interest but also love for his two daughters. The dream of making handmade gifts such as cabinet and makeup case and so on by hands for his little girl as wedding gifts is what back Kao for years of practice.

Dian-Li Chen, exhibition organizer also one of the course instructors, noted that although every student came to classroom with different motivation, through the process of learning by doing, carpentry has already become more than a technique but also a channel to a higher quality of life.

Has been cultivating talent since 2014, many business managers in carpentry related enterprises as well as professional players in international carpentry competitions are from Taipei Tech Wood School.
