Taipei Tech held its virtual MOU Signing Ceremony with Kyushu University on 23th September to officially establish partnership between the two universities, and both parties plan to promote students and faculty exchange and joint academic research to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the near future.

As Japan's top research-oriented national university and the best higher educational institution in Kyushu, Kyushu University was rated by the Ministry of Education, Japan, as one of the “Top Global Universities”. In the 2021 QS World University Ranking, Kyushu University is ranked 132nd and in the 2020 QS Asian University Ranking, it is ranked 30th. In addition to its outstanding performance in the fields of engineering, chemistry and material science, Kyushu University has also been actively engaged in the key areas such as energy, biotechnology and cosmology promoting by the local government.  

Taipei Tech President Wang Sea-fue indicated that Taipei Tech has maintained a long-lasting friendship with Kyushu University for years. “Kyushu University has been making significant progress and keeping on delivering groundbreaking research results in the field of renewable energy,” said Wang, “Energy is also the key subject that Taipei Tech has been focusing on, and we have founded the Emission Reduction and Energy Conservation Center and the Sustainable Environment Control Center as well as collaborating with the government and industry to develop offshore wind power over the past years.” He hopes that the two universities will have more in-depth exchange and cooperative projects in the renewable energy field and jointly produce momentous research result in the future.

Kyushu University President Chiharu Kubo said that Taipei Tech is one of the most prominent universities in Taiwan. Besides from student and faculty exchange and conducting joint research, Kyushu University would also like to cooperate with Taipei Tech on the implementation of international short-term program. Kyushu University has rolled out many short-term programs, such as Japan in Today’s World (JTW), targeting at international students by offering cultural and language learning contents. Taipei Tech has also been designing a PBL-oriented short-term program for both international and domestic students to cultivate their problem solving and coordination abilities, and to encourage students to form their own international network.

Though due to the pandemic, the MOU signing ceremony can only be hosted online, the representatives from Taipei Tech and Kyushu University still looking forward to the arrangement of mutual visits after the pandemic to further facilitate the partnership between the two universities.
