Taipei Tech Rolls Out 28 Micro Programs for Interdisciplinary Learning

In view of the rapid transition of modern technology, the educators of Taipei Tech have recognized the importance of interdisciplinary learning as a necessary measure to cultivate future talents. To encourage students to learn and connect concepts across different disciplines, Taipei Tech offers 28 micro programs ranging from the themes of semi-conductor, artificial intelligence, biomedical technology, green energy and smart sensor technology.

Yang Shih-hsuan, Taipie Tech Vice President and Provost, mentioned that ever since 2016, Taipei Tech has been promoting micro programs. “In 2021, the data shows that there have been more than 4000 students who have taken the micro program” said Yang. With the promising feedback received, the university has been considering making micro program a graduation requirement in the near future.

Yang further noted that Taipei Tech has been actively cultivating talents for the semi-conductor industry by offering different programs with different levels and depths. “We offer micro programs in direct collaboration with TSMC that student will have the chance to take their courses at TSMC's factory in Taichung's Central Taiwan Science Park.” said Yang

Taipei Tech is also collaborating with Taipei Medical University to launch a micro program on biomedical assistive technology. The program will focus on the theory of assistive technology and electro-medical engineering, and on how to put theory into practice to develop innovative medical products.

The two partner universities have already jointly offered an interdisciplinary course, “Assistive technology: research & application”, before. The students from both schools who have participated in the course have designed several creative and practical products such as a multi-functioning wheelchair and an interactive game to train the muscles of tongue.
