Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the results of Asia University Rankings 2021, and Taipei Tech achieved a new record and ranked 88th in the latest list. Among all the Taiwanese universities listed in the top 100 Asian Universities by QS, Taipei Tech had the biggest improvement, rising from 95th to 88th and domestic ranking from 11th to 9th.

QS rankings utilize eleven indicators to assess university performance, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty to student ratio, citations per faculty, international research network, and so on. The key to this prominent improvement of Taipei Tech’s ranking is the progressive development and expansion of international research network.

In recent years, Taipei Tech has been actively promoted academic cooperation with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Penn State University (Penn State), and Tohoku University (TU). Taipei Tech also partners with University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in Launching AI and Big Data International Dual-degree Program and collaborates with University of Cincinnati (UC) to roll out the International School of Smart Sensing Systems.

Sea-Fue Wang, President of Taipei Tech, indicated that Taipei Tech will establish a technology research institute focusing on energy and smart sensing development. “With the support of our alumni,” said Wang, “We are able to connect with top universities such as MIT, UC Berkeley, and Penn State to together set up this cross-college and cross-field research institute”. This institute will be the base for regional industry-academia cooperation and cross-border technology network.

Taipei Tech not only rose to 88th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2021, but also entered the top 500 for the first time in the latest QS World University Rankings. President Wang concluded that “Our vision for Taipei Tech is that we will one day be one of the best applied research universities in the world”.
