Taipei Tech Compassion Award Established: Bridging Charity, Humanities, and AI Education to Build a Social Impact Platform

TAIPEI, May 2 — National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech) held the launch ceremony for the "Taipei Tech Compassion Award" today. The award was co-founded and funded by two distinguished alumni and honorary doctorates: Lin Tien-mao, Founding Executive Chairman of the global "Compassion Award," and Charles Liang, Founder, President, and CEO of Supermicro.

Jen Yi-jun, President of Taipei Tech, stated that the establishment of the Taipei Tech Compassion Award marks a significant milestone in deepening public welfare education and social responsibility. Beyond cultivating professional talent, the university aims to honor role models of charity and promote a "cycle of kindness." By encouraging faculty, students, and alumni to invest in social care and sustainable practices, Taipei Tech hopes to root the power of goodness within the campus and bring positive influence to society.

Rallying Alumni Power to Uphold the "Sincerity, Precision, and Diligence" Spirit

President Jen pointed out that over its century-long history, Taipei Tech has nurtured countless elites across the globe. Many alumni have excelled in business, technology, and public sectors while maintaining deep ties to their alma mater. Their long-term support for research and campus development embodies the school motto, "Sincerity, Precision, and Diligence," and the traditional value of "gratitude for one's roots." The collective effort to establish this award symbolizes the heritage of combining technical expertise with humanitarian care.

AI Pioneer Giving Back: Charles Liang Exemplifies Vision and Compassion

A graduate of the Electrical Engineering Department of Taipei Tech’s predecessor (Provincial Taipei Institute of Technology), Charles Liang moved to the U.S. and founded Supermicro, a global leader in AI servers and high-performance computing. A recipient of the 20th Compassion Award, Liang has long focused on environmental sustainability—ranging from technological innovation to his "Green Computing" initiatives and Saharan desert reforestation projects.

Furthermore, Liang has consistently supported AI education at Taipei Tech. His donation of NVIDIA H100 AI servers has empowered the university to advance Generative AI and smart campus development, allowing students to engage directly with the world’s most cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology.

Global Promoter of Charity: Lin Tien-mao Shows the Power of Chinese Philanthropy

Lin Tien-mao, an alumnus of the Mechanical Engineering Department, founded the Taisun Group in Hong Kong, with business interests spanning Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Mainland China. Guided by the philosophy of "Love without Boasting," he founded the global "Compassion Award" in 2006. For nearly two decades, the award has recognized unsung heroes of charity, aiming to "gather drops of compassion into a sea" and unite the global Chinese community in spreading care and hope.

Distinguished Panel of Judges: Ensuring Credibility and Impact

The Taipei Tech Compassion Award has invited a prestigious panel of judges with deep roots in philanthropy and education, including:

Yao Leeh-ter, Taipei Tech Chair Professor.

The goal is to transform students from learners into doers, and from professionals into global citizens with social impact.
