30 Taipei Tech Students Head to Japan for Internships Spanning Agentic AI and Low-Earth-Orbit Satellite Cybersecurity

National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech) continues to strengthen talent development through industry–academia collaboration between Taiwan and Japan. This year, 30 students are undertaking internships at Japanese companies through the Ministry of Education’s Pilot Overseas Internships program (Xuehai Zhumeng). Their placements span agentic AI, smart manufacturing, information technology, and energy, and extend into cybersecurity for satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Gaining firsthand experience at international companies, the students are turning industry workplaces into extensions of the classroom.

Agentic AI in the Workplace: Students Gain Hands-On Experience in Multi-Agent Collaboration

Among the placements are internships at Japanese startup Best AI Co., Ltd., where students work on company projects involving multi-agent collaboration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-powered investment decision-making systems. Using tools such as LangGraph and CrewAI, they learn how AI agents divide responsibilities, collaborate, break down tasks, and execute workflows, gaining practical experience in generative AI and AI agent applications.

Jing-Ling You, a master’s student in the Department of Electronic Engineering, said the internship underscored the importance of time management, communication, and problem-solving alongside technical expertise. The experience also strengthened her resolve to pursue a career in artificial intelligence and information technology.

Smart Manufacturing Internships Connect Okayama and Kitakyushu, Bringing Students into the Workplace

In smart manufacturing, students intern at MGH and other companies in Okayama, gaining experience in vehicle production, testing, and process improvement. Through a partnership with the City of Kitakyushu, other students undertake internships at companies including NSW Inc., Matsumoto Industry Co., Ltd., and SoftEnergy Controls Inc., working across information systems, Internet of Things (IoT) and AI, manufacturing, and energy applications. According to the city, the partnership with Taipei Tech marks Kitakyushu’s first collaboration with a Taiwanese university to offer international internships at local companies. It also establishes a new model in which a local government takes the lead in hosting science and engineering talent from Taiwan.

Rui-Yi Zhang, a student in the Department of Energy and Refrigerating Air-Conditioning Engineering, gained hands-on experience operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, taking dimensional measurements, and conducting quality inspections in Okayama. Zhang also explained the principles of refrigeration cycles and heat exchange to Japanese technicians in Japanese, directly applying engineering expertise and language skills to technical communication across borders.

Cybersecurity Enters the New Space Sector as Low-Earth-Orbit Satellites Provide New Opportunities for Practical Training

In advanced cybersecurity, students intern at GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, Inc., gaining experience in attack surface identification, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and satellite communications security across low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite ground stations, control centers, and cloud platforms. Nan-Tian Chen, a master’s student in cybersecurity, also helped implement post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards, analyze satellite IoT security, and build a simulation and testing platform for LEO satellite communication links, translating classroom knowledge of cryptography and cybersecurity into engineering applications that can be tested and validated.

Taipei Tech stated that, as a leading university in technical and vocational education, it sees overseas internships as more than an opportunity for students to go abroad. Their purpose is to immerse students in company operations, engage them in projects, and give them real problems to solve. Spanning agentic AI and LEO satellite cybersecurity, these internships in Japan demonstrate Taipei Tech’s continued commitment to practical learning and industry needs as it prepares a new generation of technology professionals with interdisciplinary expertise, global perspectives, and hands-on capabilities.
