Last month from June 15 – 20, President Leehter Yao, Office of International Affairs Dean Sheng-Tung Huang, and Research and Development Dean Wenlung Li visited leading universities in the Baltic regions that included Tallinn University of Technology (TUT), Riga Technical University (RTU), Vilnius University, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU).

At Tallinn University of Technology, both universities signed an MOU that agreed to carry out joint research activities; exchange of professors, researchers, staff, and students; and exchange of scientific materials, publications, and information.

In December of 2012, Taipei Tech had the honor of receiving Rector Alfonsas Dani?nas when he visited, and both universities signed an MOU. Last month, the Taipei Tech delegation repaid the visit, and representatives from both universities discussed future collaborations in detail. The two universities agreed to collaborate on joint research and scientific publications.

VGTU is home to 19 prestigious academic journals, 5 of which are SCI journals. Taipei Tech will contribute to the magazine publishing and editing of two of the SCI journals. Professor Meen-Wah Gui of the Department of Civil Engineering will join the editorial board of the “Journal of Civil Engineering and Management,” while Professor James J.H. Liou of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management will join the editorial board of “Technological and Economic Development of Economy”. In addition to collaborating on the abovementioned SCI journals, both universities also agreed to actively promote research cooperation especially in information communication technology (ICT) and electrical and mechanical engineering. The universities will also strongly encourage students to participate in the student exchange programs.

At Vilnius University, Taipei Tech signed an MOU that included exchange of researchers, staff, and students; and exchange of academic information and knowledge. This will be an initial step toward international research collaboration.

The efforts of President Yao, Dean Huang, and Dean Li will provide rare opportunities for Taipei Tech professors and students. Students will have the exciting chance to gain international perspective and experience, while two eminent professors will have the opportunity to work with other editorial board members on SCI journals.
