Taipei Tech Shines at NMUN 2015

The National Model United Nations 2015 (NMUN 2015) was held on March 22 (EST) in New York. The team of Taipei Tech includes 14 elite students from 7 countries. They played the role of Swaziland representative and competed with students from over 500 different universities from across the globe.
Taipei Tech team had 6-month intense training before the big event. During their training, team members discussed various international issues and honed their ability to analyze international situations.
Taipei Tech also had the honor of inviting former Swaziland Embassy officials to share their experience with the team members.
During the NMUN conference, Taipei Tech showed a lot of outstanding qualities that received high praise from the judging committee. Team members grasped every opportunity to speak, formed alliance with other schools successfully, and showed the spirit of a great team.
With their extraordinary performance, the team of Taipei Tech was awarded the Honorable Mentioned Delegation. Two of Taipei Tech’s student representatives in the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Ming Yan Hu and Ebrima Nyassi, were voted as Outstanding Representatives. Also, 4 other students in the team were elected to be the Pagers in their committee to take the responsibility of transporting important information while promoting Taiwan at the same time.
The team learned a lot from the NMUN 2015. One of the students, Ming Yan Hu, said she learned more about the educational situations and problems in Mainland China as well as how education plays a central part in reducing disease as well as solving the problems of poverty and promoting human rights.
Besides preparing for the NMUN 2015, the team also participated in the Island Model United Nations Youth 2014 (IMUN 2014). Their superior performance garnered 3 awards, including the Best Representative Award and the Best Oral Performance Award.
Taipei Tech’s Dean of Academic Affairs, Zheng Jie Yu, notes that Taipei Tech put much effort in cultivating and advancing students’ global outlook. And it is delightful to see improved performance from Taipei Tech students each year at the NMUN. Taipei Tech will continue to encourage students to think globally. In order to boost the understanding and involvement of the students in international affairs, Taipei Tech will invite the awarded team to share their experience with fellow classmates and set up a student club to promote global awareness on campus as well.
