Smart safety reminder to protect us in hotels: Taipei Tech’s award winning design concept

We all know that when staying at a hotel, it is important to be familiar with the escaping route and emergency exit’s location. But the truth is that not many people used to look around before entering their own rooms. Therefore, the unfamiliarity for a safe way out leads to a more caustic situation and more possible casualties when emergencies happened.

In order to solve this problem, Taipei Tech team came up with a design concept, Escape Class, which combines smoke alert with a safety reminder which will automatically project locations of emergency exits and fire extinguishers on walls and floors when guests entered its sensor zone with their RFID room card. The repeat image showcases are expected to raise awareness and put life-saving information into people’s brain.

With the help of Escape Class, Taipei Tech wishes to fill up security flaw in hotels and provide a safer staying experience for people. Designed by students at the Master Program of Innovation and Design, Ciao-Jun Ni, Yao-Ting Huang, Yan-Ting Chen, and Yan-Ting Chen, the Escape Class was awarded Bronze in the 14th YSED Competition. The team is co-instructed by Wen-In Chen and Zi-Kuan Huang at the Department of Industrial Design.
